Have you ever wanted to escape your life for a night and rekindle those simple joys you experienced as a child? Like an impromptu trip to Dairy Queen, or capturing lightning bugs in a jar, or knowing your TV night includes new episodes of “Who’s the Boss” followed by “Growing Pains.”
I know a place where you can channel that joy but still be an adult — because you have to be at least 21 to participate.
It’s called Pleasure Ridge Pizza, or PRP for short, and it’s located off of Crittenden Drive, right near the train tracks. And while the pizza is good and the atmosphere is sporty, the true fun comes when a train goes by — which can happen quite often.
Because every time a train goes by, you can order a (domestic) beer for $1. And I can’t tell you how thrilling it is to have the bartender throw down a bucket of beer in front of you, and then hear that familiar blare of the horn and see the blinking lights on the gates as they close off the road. The bartender immediately will ring the special bell, and patrons high-five in glee.
One night I swear at least five trains went by within 90 minutes. Luckily I’m a quick Uber ride away. And I suggest you Uber, because you never know how many beers will be placed in front of you over the course of the evening. It’s like college all over again.
I never knew how much I loved trains until now.
